Review

Margri Lohrer owns Morehouse Farm on the Hudson River Valley. There she raises Merino sheep along with a farm full other other animals. In this book, she shares a collection of 40 knitting patterns using merino wool.

I really like this book because it gives you an inside view of life on the farm with merino sheep, the care that is required, and how the sheep are sheered in order to produce her wool yarn.

The patterns in this book range from thing for the home like a chair paid and felted blanket with matching pillows. Several lace scarf patterns really show off the merino wool. I really like the rabbit-proof scarf on page 48 has a lovely drop stitch pattern that gives the scarf an airy feel.

There is chapter on knitted items for children including mittens, hats, and sweaters. There is an adorable baby set that included a blanket with matching booties and a hat on page 76.

The chapter on knitted accessories includes diagonal scarf using variegated yarn on page 84 and a chic look beret on page 102.

I really liked the sweater chapter. The patterns really showed off the merino yarn. There is plain man’s sweater on page 110 that could make a perfect gift for the man in your life. It is worked in a top down raglan style. A cowl neck sweater on page 136 in a double seed stitch pattern is really pretty and soft looking.

I recommend Morehouse Farm Merino Knits if you’d like to learn more about life on the farm with merino sheep as well as get some great patterns to knit.
